Chiller Technician

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics and repairs of large tonnage chillers — air-cooled and water-cooled, including centrifugal, screw, and scroll configurations.
• Troubleshooting and programming DDC/BAS building controls systems at an advanced level.
• Commissioning and starting up chiller and controls systems, optimizing for peak efficiency.
• Identifying and resolving electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues.
• Conducting scheduled preventative maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and supporting equipment.
• Interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
• Keeping accurate, timely documentation of all service work, repairs, and recommendations.
• Communicating clearly with customers about system conditions, findings, and next steps.
• Adhering to all safety requirements, EPA standards, and internal company policies.
• Providing guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior technicians when applicable.

Required Qualifications

• EPA 608 Universal Certification.
• 5 or more years of commercial HVAC experience with significant exposure to heavy chiller systems.
• Demonstrated experience with BAS/DDC controls platforms.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting capability across both low and high voltage systems.
• Comfortable working independently with limited oversight.
• Valid driver's license in good standing.
• Able to lift 50 lbs and operate in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications

• Factory certifications or formal training on major chiller manufacturers.
• Hands-on controls programming or commissioning background.
• Prior experience in hospitals, industrial plants, or large-scale commercial buildings.
