Care for the youngest hearts in Kids Life during their earliest moments. As Lakewood Church expands our ministry to include midweek Wednesday services, we are seeking gentle, attentive, and Christ-centered individuals to nurture infants and toddlers in a loving, safe, and faith-filled environment.

About the role

As a Nursery Teacher, you’ll help create a secure, welcoming, and prayerful first church experience for children from newborn through two years old while supporting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. You’ll partner with parents during these foundational years and work directly with the Nursery Manager to maintain a safe, loving, and engaging ministry environment.

Responsibilities

  • Minister to children through teaching, guiding, comforting, and caring for them
  • Care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children
  • Engage children at their individual developmental stages
  • Teach assigned curriculum with enthusiasm
  • Ensure quality ministry takes place in the assigned classroom or role
  • Primarily serve children from newborn through two years old; remain flexible to assist with children of other ages or in different ministry roles as needed
  • Follow established Child Safety and Emergency protocols in accordance with Lakewood Church policies
  • Help children transition successfully into and out of the nursery environment
  • Respond appropriately and positively to challenging behaviors and changing classroom needs
  • Ensure children, parents, Kids Life staff, and volunteers have a positive experience
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and a Christ-like attitude when handling sensitive or confidential information
  • Model a Christ-like attitude in interactions with children, parents, volunteers, staff, and leaders
  • Work cooperatively with Kids Life staff, volunteers, coordinators, and ministry leaders
  • Assist with classroom transitions, additional duties, and team needs
  • Encourage and inspire volunteer commitment in others
  • Maintain a cooperative and respectful attitude
  • Remain gracious, kind, and loving even in high-pressure situations
  • Be open to correction and responsive to volunteer and staff leadership
  • Maintain flexibility when classroom assignment changes are needed
  • Arrive in assigned areas on time, prepared, and ready to serve
  • Maintain a high level of dependability and reliability for assigned work schedules
  • Communicate schedule changes promptly with the Nursery Manager, Coordinator, Team Lead, and other appropriate staff
  • Complete assigned paperwork and classroom clean-up
  • Attend Kids Life team meetings, staff meetings, and area trainings
  • Maintain availability for regular ministry days, including Sundays and Wednesdays, and for special events as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum six months of volunteer, daycare, or teaching experience
  • One year of volunteer, daycare, or teaching experience preferred

Pay

  • $14 per hour base pay
  • $20 per hour Sunday premium rate

Schedule

  • Part-time, 12 to 20 hours per pay period
  • Regular workdays: Sunday 7:30 a.m.–2 p.m. and Wednesday 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
  • Additional hours may be available for special events as needed
  • Dependable attendance and availability during assigned ministry times are important to the success of this role

Mission

Employees serving in this position are expected to support the Church’s mission, maintain a lifestyle consistent with our biblical beliefs, participate in the life of the Church, and serve as part of our faith community. Ministerial responsibilities include regular attendance at church services and classes, serving as a Prayer Partner or ministry volunteer, and participating in community outreach opportunities as needed.
