Childcare Worker

About the role

The Childcare Worker at Odyssey House provides direct childcare services to children between the ages of one (1) months and twelve (12) years of age during hours when the licensed daycare is unavailable. This position involves assisting Group and Assistant Teachers in maintaining a positive, safe, and healthy learning environment, participating in child activities, and providing support to the Women/Children component of Odyssey House.

Responsibilities

• Aid Group and Assistant Teachers in creating and implementing weekly lesson plans.
• Participate in individual and group child activities.
• Assist in setting up, breaking down, and cleaning the classroom daily.
• Serve daily snacks and meals for assigned children with support from Group and Assistant Teachers.
• Cover classroom shifts during staff absences, vacancies, or as needed.
• Support children who are not actively engaged in the licensed daycare and/or when parents are unavailable to provide supervision.
• Maintain proper inventory and functioning of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Attend all required in-service training seminars, staff meetings, and on and off-site case conferences.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and staff development.
• Follow and implement licensing requirements per DOHMH and Odyssey House policies.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience working with children required.
• Associate's degree and one (1) year of experience working with children preferred.
• Experience working, supporting, and teaching children is recommended.
• CPR/First Aid Certification recommended (but provided by Odyssey House).
• NYS Central Registry Check and fingerprint clearance required upon hire.
• Knowledge of NYC Department of Health regulations and codes recommended.
• Proficiency with computer operations (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs) required.
• Must be able to lift small children.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
