About the role

Tierra Encantada is hiring a Classroom Assistant for both of our Infant classrooms. Classroom Assistants support Teacher(s) in creating a fun, safe, and educational environment for children.

Responsibilities

  • Create a fun and welcoming environment for all children
  • Develop daily activities to support curriculum and educational objectives through play
  • Oversee daily classroom operations, including scheduled activities, projects, curriculum implementation, lesson plans, classroom décor, and cleanliness
  • Assess each child's developmental needs on an ongoing basis through observations
  • Implement Tierra Encantada's curriculum and lesson plans
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and leadership to prepare for semi-annual parent-teacher conferences
  • Update classroom décor following the seasons
  • Maintain a positive, friendly attitude with families and support parents in their child's growth
  • Provide parents with updates on their child's progress during pick-up or drop-off
  • Ensure the assigned classroom is well-maintained and clean
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with teachers, cooks, other staff, and administration
  • Attend all required staff meetings, workshops, and trainings
  • Fulfill required training requirements (24 hours annually) and support Center objectives in achieving accreditation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in Spanish
  • Experience in early childhood education and working with infant to school-age children strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with families and co-workers
  • Provide a certificate of completion of an approved pediatric first aid and CPR training within 90 days of hire (employees must maintain certification)
  • Respect for diversity and recognition of its value in our program
  • Ability to complete annual required trainings to ensure high-quality early education
  • Familiarity with childcare licensing requirements, safety protocols, and best practices in early education

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently walk, stand, climb stairs, crawl, sit, squat, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, rise from the floor, and twist
  • Carry and lift up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Use repetitive or fine hand movements
  • Occasionally push, pull, and run short distances
  • Excellent long-distance and near vision to monitor children indoors and outdoors in various light conditions
  • Strong hearing capabilities to respond to children’s needs and maintain safety in a moderately noisy environment

Pay

Starting pay range: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour, depending on education and experience.

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position. Monday–Friday, with hours varying by location and operational needs.
