Childcare Attendant

Responsibilities

• Play, interact with, and supervise play activities of children.
• Ensure the safety of children during play activities.
• Check children in and out of the facility to the proper guardian.
• Determine applicability of grace period and appropriate charges for care; collect payment.
• Clean the classroom and disinfect toys and other frequently handled objects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Experience in childcare and customer service preferred.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications are required; ability to obtain within 30 days of hire (certifications can be obtained at the Recreation Center).
• Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check prior to commencing employment.

Skills

• Skill in performing CPR and First Aid.
• Skill in caring for children and responding to their needs.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established Town policies and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, supervisors, and coworkers.

Physical Demands

• Physical ability to lift and hold children.
• Physical ability to push, pull, lift up to 75 lbs.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
• Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
• Vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information.
• Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment

Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment.

Equipment Used

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools) in the course of their employment.
