Childcare Assistant Teacher
About the Role
Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Childcare Assistant Teacher for our Growing Up At Obici childcare center. This full-time position is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The Assistant Teacher is knowledgeable of developmental early childhood methods and is responsible for assisting the teacher in the care and learning of children, developing lesson plans, and following the curriculum. This role also assists with the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom, offering a great opportunity for creativity and positively impacting children in their early years.
Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in the care and learning of children
- Develop lesson plans while following the curriculum
- Support day-to-day operational activities of the classroom
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
- College-level coursework in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, psychology, or completion of Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) (Preferred)
Certification/Licensure
- Driver's License
- National Food Handlers Card
- Food Service Certification (within 90 days of hire)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI (within 30 days of hire)
Experience
- 1 year of childcare experience

Pay
The base pay range for full-time employment is $17.78 - $25.53 hourly. Additional compensation may be available, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
