DCCCA’s comprehensive continuum of substance abuse treatment and outpatient mental health counseling in Wichita offers gender-responsive and family-focused services for both men and women. Clients come primarily from Sedgwick County but are accepted from referral sources state-wide. Substance abuse treatment services include non-medical detoxification, short-term intensive and extended-stay residential programs, intensive outpatient modalities, outpatient counseling, and primary healthcare collaboration. Outpatient counseling for both substance use and mental health needs is facilitated via telehealth technology or in-office sessions. DCCCA’s unique gender-responsive program provides services to women, women with dependent children, and pregnant women. Licensed childcare, parenting, case management, and mental health services are integrated into the substance abuse treatment modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Creates a safe client environment by performing all required security and safety procedures.
  • Assists in the client’s orientation of treatment goals, program rules, and structure.
  • Submits a written incident report in the event of unusual client behavior or activity while in DCCCA’s care.
  • Builds a safe, comfortable, and caring group atmosphere where client children learn to express feelings, discuss drug abuse/prevention, and family relationships by participating in age-appropriate activities.
  • Shares the evening meal with clients and other staff members.
  • Meets with children and/or mothers individually to provide basic information, make simple suggestions, and assist with referrals as necessary.
  • Gathers and arranges resources, materials, toys, and other items needed for group activities.
  • Coordinates volunteer coverage for the children’s program as necessary.
  • Implements and follows approved activity and lesson plans.
  • Disciplines and guides children as necessary.
  • Allows parents to add input on the program.
  • Establishes and maintains good communication/relationships with parents on a daily basis.
  • Informs fellow staff members of program goals and developments that relate to the children and parents.
  • May require regular driving to various DCCCA locations and other business locations throughout the day, including early morning or evening hours.
