Fully remote position with quarterly visits to the STAR location in Boardman, OR. This is a 0.2 FTE (8 hours per week to start) exempt-salaried role.

Pay

  • Annual salary range: $307,400 – $461,200 (equivalent to $147.79 – $221.73 per hour based on a 40-hour work week).
  • Pay is pro-rated at hire based on weekly hours and will increase as facility needs grow.
  • $5,500 hiring bonus available until 10/31/26 (requires a 2-year commitment; payout is staggered and taxed).

  • Part-time to start, with hours expected to increase as the facility opens (target opening: November 2026).

About the Role

The Child Psychiatrist serves as the attending physician responsible for psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and medical oversight of psychiatric care for youth admitted to Specialized Treatment and Resiliency (STAR). The psychiatrist collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, evidence-based psychiatric services that promote stabilization, safety, recovery, and successful transition to community-based care.

Supervision

  • Supervision Received: Clinically supervised by the Medical Director and administratively supervised by the Facility Administrator.
  • Supervision Exercised: This position does not exercise formal supervision over others.

Responsibilities

  • Complete admission psychiatric evaluations.
  • Establish and document psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Determine medical necessity for admission and continued stay.
  • Conduct psychiatric reassessments as clinically indicated.
  • Prescribe, modify, and discontinue psychiatric medications.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness and side effects.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Develop psychiatric goals and objectives within the Individualized Treatment Plan.
  • Review progress toward treatment goals.
  • Recommend evidence-based interventions and therapeutic approaches.
  • Ensure psychiatric treatment aligns with the overall plan of care.
  • Meet with parents, guardians, and caregivers regarding treatment recommendations, including explaining diagnoses, medications, risks, and benefits.
  • Participate in family treatment meetings.
  • Support transition planning and continuity of care following discharge.
  • Complete all paperwork in a professional, clinically sound, and timely manner as prescribed by OARs, CFRs, Joint Commission standards, and other pertinent guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical degree in psychiatry from an accredited program.
  • Completion of a child and adolescent psychiatry residency.
  • Licensed by the State of Oregon.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of symptoms and challenges faced by people with mental illness and addictions (or ability to acquire this knowledge).
  • Knowledge of relevant OARs (or ability to acquire this knowledge).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Professional skills to work with the public and coordinate services across agencies and community groups.
  • Ability to develop cooperative and respectful relationships with clients and their families.
  • Knowledge of the recovery model (or ability to acquire this knowledge).
  • Ability to represent the interests of clients and the agency positively in the community.
  • Ability to work well in teams and with diverse groups.
  • Adherence to rules and laws pertaining to client confidentiality.
  • Functional knowledge of business English and medical terminology.
  • Good spelling and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to learn assigned tasks readily and adhere to general office procedures.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, including presenting and exchanging information internally and externally.

Additional Requirements

  • Personal Auto Insurance: Must hold a valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance for privately owned vehicles used for CCS business (e.g., client services, travel between offices, meetings, or trainings). Proof of $300,000 or more liability coverage for bodily injury and $100,000 or more for property damage is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment. The employee’s insurance is primary; CCS insurance is secondary. CCS reserves the right to deny the use of a CCS-owned vehicle.
  • Criminal Background Checks: Must pass all criminal history check requirements as outlined in ORS 181.536-181.537 and OAR 410-007-0200 through 410-007-0380. Monthly checks against OIG, GSA exclusion lists, and other federal/state agency lists are required. Exclusion or sanction will result in immediate termination.
  • Pre-Hire Drug Screen: Required.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office/secure facility environment and in the community. Noise levels in the office/secure facility are usually moderate but may occasionally include loud noises. Community environments, including client homes, are unpredictable.
  • Occasional out-of-area travel and overnight stays may be required for meetings or trainings.
  • Handicap access may not be available at all locations.
  • May be required to respond to client crises in unpredictable environments, including uneven terrain.
  • Exposes the employee to everyday risks or discomforts typical of office or home environments; normal safety precautions are required.
