Child Life Specialist
Job Summary and Qualifications
The Child Life Specialist at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital provides a therapeutic environment for hospitalized children and their families. They evaluate the adjustment to the hospital setting and provide emotional support. The CLS acts as a resource for the healthcare team and uses therapeutic techniques to prepare patients for treatments and procedures.
- Evaluates the child’s developmental abilities and adjustment to the hospital setting
- Interprets data and evaluates responses
- Uses therapeutic techniques to prepare patients for treatments / procedures to reduce stress and trauma
- Provides a therapeutic environment, working with families/support groups
- Researches the latest trends concerning children in the hospital environment
- Uses expertise to act as a resource both intra- and inter-departmentally
- Utilizes medical terminology appropriately
- Supports the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values
Qualifications
- CCLS certification by the Child Life Council
- BLS from the American Heart Association
- Minimum of one year of experience preferred
