Child Life Specialist (30 hours)

About the Role

Child Life Specialist working 30 hours per week (two 10-hour days in CHPCC Primary Care and one 10-hour day in Cardiac in-patient). This role involves participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients, and providing support to patients and families from birth to young adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide common interventions including support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement.
• Offer coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations.
• Maintain resources, including ordering and stocking unit areas.
• Delegate work assignments to volunteers and participate in the clinical training of student interns.
• Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
• 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
• General skills to resolve problems using child development theory, professional child life principles, and experience-based knowledge.
• Well-developed writing skills and excellent communication skills, including conflict resolution, to effectively work as a team member.
• Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.

Pay

The posted pay range reflects Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this role at the time of posting. The base pay offer depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and other job-related factors.
