Child Life Activity Coordinator

In collaboration with Child Life Specialists, the Child Life Activity Coordinator provides support to patients in the hospital setting by evaluating and facilitating patient activity and events. These interventions occur at the bedside, during special events, and in the patient activity areas. The goal is to provide opportunities for play and support the overall operational needs of the Child Life department.

The Child Life team in Colorado Springs is an exceptional group of tenured Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLS) eager to expand the team and scope of coverage. In Colorado Springs, we care for children with a variety of medical conditions, including critical care, inpatient, and outpatient units, and serve as a Level 2 trauma center. We work hard to provide outstanding emotional care to the whole family unit. This position supports inpatient and outpatient programming and expanding activity room availability across the Southern Region main campus.

Responsibilities

• Provides developmental and recreational play opportunities for patients and families.
• Ensures activity rooms are available to patients and families during designated hours.
• Maintains required patient care documentation and reporting of play sessions.
• Assists Child Life Specialists in planning, conducting, and evaluating activities for patients and families.
• Assists with special events and departmental programming, including promoting events, helping patients attend, or conducting bedside visits.
• Helps with set-up and clean-up of events.
• Provides training, instruction, and guidance to Patient Activity Volunteers.
• Maintains clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate Child Life areas (e.g., activity rooms).
• Supports the supply process by ordering, receiving, organizing, and distributing child life supplies (non-medical patient equipment, toys, activities, etc.).
• Partners with the Association of Volunteers to assist with donations.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience working with children.
• An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

Schedule

• 40 hours per week, full-time.
• 4-10 hour days (9:00 AM – 7:30 PM).
• Coverage schedule rotates every 6 months (Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday). Current shift rotation: Sunday–Wednesday.

Pay

Hourly range: $18.44 to $27.67, dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
