About the role

As an Assistant Teacher in the Early Head Start program, you will work under the guidance of the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for infants and toddlers. This role involves supporting daily classroom activities, engaging with children to promote their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth, and collaborating with families to ensure a holistic approach to early childhood education.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities for infants and toddlers.
• Support children’s learning through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
• Assist with daily routines, including feeding, diapering, napping, and transitions.
• Observe and document children’s progress, behaviors, and developmental milestones.
• Communicate effectively with families about their child’s progress, needs, and daily experiences.
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment.
• Follow all program policies, procedures, and licensing regulations.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with infants and toddlers in a childcare or early education setting.
• Knowledge of early childhood development and best practices in early education.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to pass a background check and meet state licensing requirements.
