Promotes a safe, nurturing environment for children using developmentally appropriate practices to support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a developmentally appropriate room environment that is safe, welcoming, clean, nurturing, and stimulates learning and discovery.
  • Provides direct supervision of children at all times.
  • Interacts with children using approved early childhood education standards and attends to their physical and emotional needs.
  • Follows all regulatory standards and best practices as outlined by Utah Department of Health, Child Care Licensing; completes 20 hours of annual training.
  • Maintains daily records as required by State Licensing, including incident reports, attendance sheets, and daily record sheets.
  • Organizes engaging and educational activities, materials, and daily schedules to meet developmental goals for each child.
  • Maintains observation notes, conducts formal assessments, and provides portfolio documentation to track children’s progress; shares updates with parents through regular communication and two formal conferences annually.
  • Observes and addresses difficulties children may have with developmental milestones or behavior; collaborates with leadership and parents on follow-up actions.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and a commitment to continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience working in an early childhood program.
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Food Handlers Permit within 60 days of hire.
  • Passion for working with young children.
  • Flexibility in schedule and adaptability to changes due to census-based staffing.
  • Creativity and interest in a long-term career in early childhood education.
  • Availability Monday through Friday, with shifts primarily in the afternoon and evening (3:00 PM – 7:00 PM).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Development/Education or a closely related field (e.g., Elementary Education, Family-Life Studies, Child Psychology) from an accredited institution.
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Development (CDA – Child Development Associate).

Skills

  • Knowledge of child development and experience caring for children.
  • Patience, kindness, and flexibility to follow children’s interests and needs.
  • Ability to proactively resolve conflict and remain calm under stress.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent customer service and professional verbal/written communication.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergencies to ensure children’s safety.
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Word, internet navigation, uploading documentation) for record-keeping, training, and communication.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see, read, and assess children’s needs, including monitoring equipment and documentation.
  • Frequent verbal communication with children, colleagues, and parents; ability to hear and respond quickly, especially in emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity for writing, typing, diaper changing, sanitizing, food preparation, and fine-motor play with children.
  • Strength and dexterity to lift and carry children up to 35 pounds.
  • Full range of movement, including walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, and sitting on the floor to interact with children at their level.
  • Ability to run in emergencies and perform CPR/First Aid actions.

Pay

$18.76 - $24.38 per hour, based on experience.

Schedule

  • Part-time: 10 hours per week guaranteed, with potential for up to 15 hours.
  • Shifts: Monday through Friday, primarily between 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM (no weekends or holidays).
  • Must be available all 5 weekdays; flexibility required for occasional earlier shifts to cover staff absences.
  • Center hours: 5:45 AM – 6:45 PM.
