This is a full-time, floating teacher position at the Salt Lake City Child Development Center, requiring work with children of all ages (infants through preschool).

Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hrs/wk)
  • Monday - Friday, four 10-hour shifts
  • Shift times: 9:30am - 7:30pm

Pay

Hourly rate: $18.76 - $24.38, dependent on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a developmentally appropriate room environment that is safe, welcoming, clean, nurturing, and stimulates learning and discovery.
  • Provide direct supervision of children at all times.
  • Interact warmly with children using approved early childhood education standards and immediately attend to their physical and emotional needs.
  • Follow all regulatory standards and best practices as outlined by Utah Department of Health, Child Care Licensing.
  • Complete 20 hours of training annually to review required standards.
  • Maintain daily records as required by State Licensing, including incident reports, attendance sheets, and daily record sheets.
  • Organize engaging and educational activities, materials, and daily schedules that meet developmental goals for each child.
  • Maintain observation notes, conduct formal assessments, and provide portfolio documentation to assess children’s progress.
  • Share information on each child’s development with parents regularly, including two formal parent conferences annually.
  • Observe and recognize difficulties children may have with developmental milestones or behavior and discuss follow-up actions with leadership and parents.
  • Be a team player and continuous learner.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience working in an early childhood program.
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Food Handlers Permit within 60 days of hire.
  • Previous experience in a child care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Development/Education or a closely related field (Elementary Education, Family-Life Studies, Child Psychology) from an accredited institution.
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Development (CDA – Child Development Associate).

  • Knowledge of child development and experience caring for children.
  • Love for children, flexibility, patience, and kindness.
  • Ability to proactively resolve conflict and remain calm under stress.
  • Good organizational skills and time management.
  • Excellent customer service and professional verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergencies to keep children safe.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Outlook Email, Microsoft Word, Internet navigation, uploading documentation) for record-keeping, training, communication, and curriculum planning.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need to see, read, and assess information, documentation, and children’s needs.
  • Frequent verbal communication with children, colleagues, clients, and visitors, including hearing and understanding spoken information quickly, especially during emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity for writing, computer/tablet use, routine care duties (changing diapers, sanitizing, food preparation), and fine-motor play with children.
  • Strength and dexterity to frequently lift and carry children up to 35 pounds.
  • Full range of movement to interact with children at their level, including walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, and sitting on the floor.
  • Ability to quickly respond to emergencies by running and performing CPR/First Aid actions.
