Position Overview

Under the direction of the Child Development Administrator, the Child Development Teacher plans, develops, directs, and supervises the General Child Care program in accordance with California Department of Education (CDE) and Community Care Licensing regulations.

Position No: CT26-27-POOL • Location: Expanded Learning and Support Programs • School Year: 2026-2027 • 180 contract days, 8 hours per day, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM • Full Time

Responsibilities

• Execute and direct a developmentally appropriate child care program with individual and group activities designed to stimulate growth across learning domains for children ages 3–12.
• Develop and enforce a plan for safe and effective supervision of children.
• Provide a safe, healthy environment with appropriate standards for positive behavior and pro-social development.
• Supervise and direct support staff; assist in obtaining substitutes; provide training and lunch/break coverage as needed.
• Guide daily routines including eating, sleeping, dressing, toileting, and other functions.
• Develop and implement lesson plans based on children’s identified needs and developmental abilities; submit recommendations for instructional materials.
• Complete developmental profiles for all children per CDE standards; conduct parent conferences; maintain formal and informal communication with parents regarding progress, behavior, health, and special needs.
• Collaborate with professional staff to assess and address health and developmental problems.
• Implement a nutrition program per USDA regulations; develop age-appropriate menus; maintain records for Child Care Food Program reports; assist with food program evaluations and audits.
• Assess and maintain center environments per CDE standards; devise action plans and submit recommendations for equipment or supplies.
• Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records; assist in policy development.
• Develop and conduct at least three parent advisory committee meetings.
• Maintain positive relationships with parents, school site administration, teachers, center staff, and District personnel.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Valid California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (detailed, non-expired copy from CTC website required).
• Proven skills in flexibility, sensitivity to change, problem-solving, time management, directing group/individual activities, effective communication with parents and children, and maintaining cooperative work relationships.
• Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Title 5, Title 22, and CDE regulations.
• Ability to work successfully with minority and low-income families; knowledge of basic needs of children and families.
• Strong college preparation in Early Childhood Development desirable.
• Knowledge of English and Spanish, Cantonese, or Vietnamese desirable.
• Successful teaching experience in a child development setting with children ages 3–13 is desirable.

Pay & Schedule

• Pay Range: $26.24 – $55.69 per hour
• Length of Work Year: 180 contract days, 8 hours per day
• Hours: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Work settings: Classroom, playground, restroom, instructional settings within the community.
• Physical abilities: Lifting at least 50 pounds; walking/standing for extended periods; running; visual ability to read and process documents; pushing/pulling; reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally; must be willing to diaper and provide toilet assistance; dexterity for adaptive equipment and materials; gripping and grasping.
• Hazards: Exposure to blood, body fluids, waste materials, cleaning agents, and chemicals.
