Child Development Center Teacher's Assistant

Part-time position starting at $11.50/hr.

About the role

Provide direction for children in the classroom and assist with implementing program curriculum. Deliver quality experiences that build achievement, belonging, and relationships among youth and within families.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in developing and preparing lesson plans and learning activities.
• Implement the program to meet children’s needs, interests, and capabilities according to the teacher’s lesson plan.
• Ensure children’s safety and carry out emergency procedures when needed.
• Attend parent-child events as necessary.
• Maintain a neat, clean environment, including snack/kitchen areas, and encourage children to clean up after themselves.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training to meet Continuing Education requirements.
• Communicate with parents through the lead teacher and as directed by the CDC Director.
• Assist children during transitions and changes in the daily schedule.
• Work cooperatively with all staff, communicating directly and avoiding gossip.
• Interact with children consistently, especially during snack time, group activities, and outdoor time.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and attractive classroom, including shelves, closets, and drawers.
• Observe and discuss children’s behavior with the teacher or CDC Director.
• Demonstrate flexibility by moving between groups of children as requested.
• Participate in special events, field trips, and programs.
• Become familiar with state regulations, inspection procedures, and ASYMCA policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Support ASYMCA’s program goals and inclusion commitments under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
• Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Early Child Development (ECD), Education & Teaching, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Experience planning, organizing, and implementing age- and developmentally-appropriate activities.
• Experience working with diverse groups and building relationships across backgrounds.
• Reliable transportation, a valid Texas driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and proof of personal vehicle insurance meeting the Agency’s standards.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Physically demanding role requiring constant bending, stooping, lifting (up to 30 lbs), walking, and standing.
• Must assist in moving household items and furniture.
• Regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and use hands, arms, and legs for dexterity and balance.
• Prolonged sitting may be required.
• Prioritize and multi-task, requiring good memory, concentration, and analytical thinking.
• Operate office equipment safely and address workplace hazards.
• Frequent verbal and written communication with individuals from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
• Work environment is usually quiet.
