About the role

Oversee classroom instruction, develop and implement educational programs, and ensure a safe, engaging, and effective learning environment for children. Provide quality experiences that focus on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare plans outlining learning experiences and activities for a group of children.
  • Implement the program to meet the needs, special interests, and capabilities of children in accordance with the teacher’s lesson plan.
  • Ensure children's safety and know how to carry out emergency procedures when needed.
  • Attend parent-child events as necessary.
  • Provide a neat, clean environment for all children, including the snack/kitchen area, and monitor children’s activities to ensure they clean up after themselves.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training to meet Continuing Education requirements established by the licensing office.
  • Communicate with parents through the lead teacher and as required by the CDC Director.
  • Assist with children during transitional times and changes in the daily schedule.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff, communicating directly and avoiding gossip between employees.
  • Interact with the children at all times, especially during snack time, group activity time, and outdoor time.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and attractive room, including shelves, closets, and drawers.
  • Observe behavior of children and discuss unusual behaviors with the teacher or CDC Director.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to move from one group of children to another when requested.
  • Participate in special events, field trips, and special programs.
  • Become familiar with state regulations and inspection procedures, as well as policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Support the program goals of the ASYMCA.

  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • AA in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Early Child Development (ECD), Education & Teaching, or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting.
  • Previous experience planning, organizing, and implementing age- and developmentally-appropriate activities.
  • Previous experience working with diverse groups and building genuine relationships across backgrounds.
  • Any combination of educational and work experience equivalent to the stated minimum requirements may qualify for consideration.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage, and insurability under the Agency’s insurance carrier standards.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Position is physically demanding and requires constant bending, stooping, and lifting (up to 30 lbs), as well as walking and standing.
  • Must be willing to assist in moving household items and furniture.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and use hands, arms, and legs for dexterity and balance.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to pull and push objects such as file drawers and supplies.
  • Must prioritize and multi-task work and projects requiring good memory, concentration, and analytical thinking.
  • Must perform safe operations of office equipment and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
  • Must hear, see (including peripheral vision and color distinction), read, and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Standard office equipment such as telephone, classroom tablet, and multi-function copy machine.

Licenses/Certifications

  • A motor vehicle background check is required if driving is needed.
