About the role

The Child Development Center (CDC) Director position oversees a large center providing comprehensive early childhood programs for over 200 children of eligible patrons. Services include full-time child development programs for ages six weeks through five years, emergency care, special needs care, annex facility, and extended hours care.

Responsibilities

  • Applies professional knowledge of child development principles to supervise developmental programming.

  • Ensures implementation of a developmentally appropriate program promoting social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of children.

  • Provides oversight and accountability for employee performance and child safety.

  • Recommends modifications to program goals and interprets child development philosophy and DoN policies.

  • Maintains liaison with local institutions and organizations to stay informed on community trends and changes.

  • Manages budgeting and financial management, including budget input, analysis, and reporting.

  • Supervises employees and volunteers, ensuring proper training, discipline, and recognition.

  • Maintains compliance with DoD, DoN, and USDA regulations and standards.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services.

Requirements

  • 4 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth and appropriate education, or a combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of child development principles and designing complex programs.

  • Understanding of DoD, DoN, local, and state regulations and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws related to child abuse and neglect.

  • Experience with facility design, maintenance, and financial management.

  • Ability to supervise others, manage finances, and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education (with ECE concentration), Home Economics (with early childhood emphasis), Child Care Administration, or related field.

  • Total minimum of 24 higher level semester hours in a child-related field.

  • Four years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services.

Conditions of Employment

  • Pass E-Verify employment verification check.

  • Obtain appropriate security clearance as needed.

  • Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions.
