Job Description Summary

Do you have experience teaching young children? Come join LLCC’s nationally accredited Child Development Center! The Child Development Assistant will perform duties necessary to support the teaching and learning effort of the Child Development Center, including assisting teachers with implementing the daily activities; reporting health concerns to classroom teachers; assisting in maintaining a clean safe and healthy classrooms; helping Assistant Director in monitoring kitchen and classroom supplies; performing laundry duties; and preparing breakfast, supplements and catered meals.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years previous experience in a child care setting.
  • Must enroll in coursework/training to attain an ECE Credential Level II or higher.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to obtain Food Service Sanitation Certificate.
  • Current physical and TB test and current record of immunizations including 1 dose of Tdap and 2 doses of MMR vaccine or evidence of immunity to MMR.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • ECE Credential Level 4 and Paraprofessional Licensure.

Physical Requirements

  • Carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Walk up to 1 mile.
  • Grip, hold and pinch small objects.
  • Dexterity to reach, bend, squat, stoop and kneel on a regular basis.
  • Frequent climbing (ex. ladders, stairs).
  • Position Salary

    Starting salary will likely be in the range of $17.45/hour ($36,288/year) and $20.19/hour ($41,985/year) with an excellent benefits package.

    Job Duties

    • Assist teachers in the implementation of daily activities to meet the planning goals and objectives.
    • Facilitate the learning process for children through discussion, open-ended questions, exploration, and discovery.
    • Remain sensitive to the needs of both parents and children and respect the diversity reflected in families including use of ethical guidelines established by the NAEYC Code of Ethics.
    • Set up activities according to daily lesson plans as assigned.
    • Clean, organize and replace current day’s activities and prepare materials for the next day according to the daily lesson plan.
    • Report health concerns to the classroom teachers and assist in gathering information for child assessments.
    • Aid teachers in maintaining a clean, safe and healthy classroom environment for children.
    • Aid in monitoring kitchen and classroom supplies.
    • Determine the table counts prior to each meal.
    • Ready catered meals for serving and prepare breakfast and snacks.
    • Clean and sanitize the kitchen work area, including dishes, utensils, equipment, etc. in compliance with public health regulations.
    • Perform laundry duties as needed.
    • Maintain membership and actively participate in professional organizations.
    • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training sessions and parent meetings.
    • Document 20 clock hours of professional development training each year through attendance of Child Development courses, workshops, conferences and lectures that coordinates with the goals established through your annual individualized professional development plan.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
