About the role

Help New Mexico (HELPNM) was created in 1965 by the interdenominational New Mexico Council of Churches to support education in their community. Today, their legacy and impact carry on through HELPNM’s work as a fully-owned subsidiary of CPLC. The Office of Learning and Academic Opportunity (OLAO) provides services to children and families from birth to eight years of age. Our priority is to provide general services related to families in the areas of education, health, and social/behavioral development. OLAO also provides an intentional, coordinated approach to strengthening the family unit and combines programming for children and adults in order to build strong and stable families.

In this role, you will supervise and monitor the safety of the children in your care, organize mealtimes and snacks, develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime, provide materials and resources for exploration and imaginative play, and facilitate problem-solving for children.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor the safety of children in your care.

• Develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime.
• Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use in learning activities and imaginative play.
• Facilitate children in problem-solving.
• Detect signs of illness, injury, issues, child abuse, or child neglect and report to appropriate authorities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• First Aid/CPR Certified or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
• Obtain Food Handlers card upon hire.
• TB Skin Test or chest X-ray.
• NM ECECD Background Clearance.

Some experience working or volunteering with young children is preferred. Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) is preferred.

• Effective communicator with children, staff, and parents.
• Observant and able to detect signs of issues or concerns.
