About the role

The St. John Bosco Child Care Center Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-4 years old. This position supports the Catholic mission of the childcare center while implementing curriculum that promotes spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. The Child Care Center Teacher works collaboratively with families, administrators, and support staff to ensure each child's well-being and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating classroom environment
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that support learning across all developmental domains
  • Observe and document individual child development and progress
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding their child's growth and behavior
  • Model Catholic values and integrate faith-based learning into daily activities
  • Supervise children during meals, transitions, outdoor play, and rest time
  • Support children's social-emotional development and conflict resolution
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families

Essential Job Functions

  • Classroom Management – Establish and maintain consistent routines, expectations, and positive discipline strategies aligned with the center's philosophy
  • Curriculum Implementation – Deliver developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that address cognitive, physical, social, and emotional learning objectives
  • Child Supervision – Maintain constant visual and auditory supervision of assigned children at all times
  • Health and Safety – Follow all health, safety, and sanitation protocols; respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies
  • Documentation – Complete daily reports, attendance records, incident reports, and developmental assessments
  • Parent Communication – Provide regular updates through conversations, written reports, and scheduled conferences
  • Faith Integration – Lead prayer, teach Catholic values, and incorporate religious education into daily routines
  • Professional Development – Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and maintain current certifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge – Early childhood development (ages 3-4), developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum, Catholic faith, values, and teachings, child guidance and positive discipline strategies, health, safety, and nutrition standards for young children, recognizing signs of abuse, neglect, or developmental delays
  • Skills – Communicating effectively with children, families, and colleagues, observing and documenting child behavior and development, managing classroom dynamics with patience and creativity, problem-solving and adapting to changing situations, using technology for record-keeping and communication, teaching basic academic and social skills
  • Abilities – Remaining calm and responsive during challenging situations, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability, showing genuine care and compassion for children and families, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, following written and verbal instructions, maintaining physical stamina and mobility, speaking clearly and communicating in English; bilingual skills a plus
