Community Horizons is assisting a local family in the Wausau area with recruitment and onboarding for this direct-hire role.
About the role
Join a family as a Child Advocate Provider to assist in providing care and supportive supervision for their 9-year-old boy. You’ll play a vital part in creating a safe, fun, and enriching experience that promotes growth, learning, and confidence. The role offers a rare opportunity for 1:1 connection and interaction to truly impact a child’s life.
Work will take place within the community and the family’s home.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and attend community events that align with the child’s interests
- Provide positive reinforcement and encouragement to promote independence and self-confidence
- Plan and engage in active outings together, such as playing at a park, ice skating, playing in the snow, trampolines, soccer, etc.
- Monitor and ensure the safety of the child at all times
- Remain calm and redirect defiant behaviors and/or emotional challenges
- Celebrate wins together as a team
Requirements
- Experience working with developmental disabilities and behaviors is a plus
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making with safety always in mind
- Ability to stay calm and patient in stressful situations
- Energetic and quick on your feet
- Valid driver’s license
- Background check required before employment can begin
Schedule
- Tuesday: 4:30pm–8:00pm
- Occasional Wednesday: 3:30pm–8:00pm
- Thursday: 5:00pm–8:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am–1:00pm
- Occasional weekend hours available
Shift times will change when school resumes.
Pay
$16.80 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement while the child is in the provider’s vehicle.
