Chief Radiation Therapist
Position Summary
Responsible for the daily clinical and administrative operations and activities of the radiation oncology department, including directly supervising radiation therapists, nursing and clerical staff, as well as volunteers and student interns. Works collaboratively with the radiation oncology team, including radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and Information Systems staff, to ensure the provision of high quality radiation therapy care consistent with state and national regulations, as well as accreditation guidelines. Works with the patient care team within the Cancer Center and hospital to provide accurate ionizing radiation treatment to patients according to physicians' prescriptions.
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Oversees treatment simulation, mold room procedures, treatment delivery, and all aspects of patient care.
- Oversees department workflow, department billing and coding, insurance verification, authorizations, fiscal management, scheduling, supervision of radiation oncology staff and other duties as assigned.
- Facilitates team building and works collaboratively with Radiation Oncology and HRCC staff.
- Compiles and distributes daily/monthly reports (patient and operating) in a timely manner.
- Serves as a resource for staff therapists regarding treatment protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Manages staff therapists daily scheduling, time cards, performance evaluations, etc.
- Reviews, revises, creates and implements policies and procedures, as well as annual review of all policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoots and problem solves effectively and efficiently. Communicates appropriate issues to the Administrative Director.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the healthcare environment and continues professional development.
- Ensures compliance with state inspections, Joint Commission surveys, as well as accreditation surveys ensuring compliance.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, radiation therapy, nursing or related field; Master’s degree in healthcare or related field preferred.
- Minimum Years of Experience: Five (5) years experience in radiation oncology or related healthcare areas; Previous management experience in radiation oncology; experience in radiation oncology billing and coding; experience with cancer program accreditation guidelines preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: New Jersey DEP License (Radiation Therapy), ARRT-Certified, CPR-Certified; ROCC certification preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong math skills; excellent computer and information systems skills; Knowledge of patient immobilization devices, dual energy linear accelerators, CT treatment simulator, mold room equipment/tools, electronic test/QA equipment; Knowledge of MOSAIQ EMR systems, Varian TruBeam linear accelerator, brachytherapy procedures and workflows, in addition to radiation oncology coding and billing (ROCC certification) strongly preferred; Familiarity with American College of Radiation Oncology accreditation process and standards.
