About the role

The Chief Philanthropy Officer plays a vital role in driving the organization’s fundraising efforts by cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals and wealth managers. This position is essential for expanding donor connections and enhancing assets through strategic estate planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to donor engagement and possess the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. This role also involves leading a team and shaping the future of philanthropy within the organization while fostering a collaborative culture. Responsibilities

  • Engage with wealth managers and high-net-worth donors to cultivate new relationships
  • Drive fundraising efforts to secure significant donations, focusing on community endowment building
  • Maintain ongoing communication with current donors to ensure satisfaction and continued support
  • Oversee the hiring of key team members, including a Donor Relations Officer and a Constituent Records Manager
  • Collaborate with the board of directors to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals
  • Adapt to a hybrid work style, balancing in-office learning with fieldwork to build community connections

Requirements

  • 5-10+ years of experience in fundraising or philanthropic roles, with established connections in sales or wealth management
  • Proven track record of securing significant contributions from high-net-worth individuals
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and their effective utilization
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Experience in nonprofit or philanthropy sectors is preferred
  • Success in major gifts fundraising, planned giving, or donor relationship management within a community foundation, higher education, or complex nonprofit environment is preferred
