Chief People Officer
About the role
The Chief People Officer is responsible for ensuring that Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) achieves the workforce priorities in our strategy, with a strong focus on ensuring we are an exemplar employer and having a workforce that is fit for the future.
Responsibilities
- Provides visible leadership to ensure good governance and accountability processes are in place to provide assurance to the Board and its Committees.
- Supports colleagues and role models a kind, compassionate and people first culture.
- Contributes to corporate management across all aspects of the Board’s activity, actively contributing to the effective performance of the Board, routinely providing business views on corporate issues including but not exclusive to the functional role.
- Lead for Human Resources, Workforce Planning, Learning and Organisational Development, Occupational Health, Health Safety and Wellbeing, Facilities management and Diversity and Inclusion.
- Executive Lead for the Staff Governance Committee and the Executive Remuneration Committee, along with taking lead responsibility for several working groups.
- Responsible for all workforce related matters, including leading, directing and informing the development and implementation of a People and Workplace strategy to support the delivery of Health Improvement Scotland’s strategy, vision, and purpose creating clear linkages to the delivery of the Annual Delivery Plan and Medium-Term Plan.
- Provide professional leadership, expertise and advice to the Board and the Executive Team to support strategic workforce decisions, manage risk and influence the key drivers to improve the culture, people’s performance and resources to deliver safe, effective, and efficient service.
- Ensure robust governance and strong accountability frameworks are in place—providing assurance to the Board and its Committees on all matters relating to workforce legislation, policy, compliance and best practice.
- Work collaboratively across the system to ensure that the People and Workplace strategy delivers continuous and quality improvement to its service that enables NHSScotland to deliver safe and effective, patient centered services in line with HIS’s role within the broader health and social care system in Scotland.
- Provide professional input into National workstreams and be part of the national HR Director forum, representing Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s interests as required.
