About the role
The position serves as the Chief of Staff in the Office of Chief Counsel. The location will be determined upon selection.
Responsibilities
- Exercises full supervisory authority over support personnel.
- Serves as training coordinator for the Office of Chief Counsel.
- Maintains databases.
- Counsels on all matters involving recruitment for attorneys and support staff within the Office of Chief Counsel.
- Represents the Chief Counsel and the Deputy Chief Counsel in meetings with Bureau and Department of Justice officials and with external Government (national, State and local) and non-governmental officials agencies and organizations.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Must have selective service registration if born on or after December 31, 1959.
- May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- Must be a current permanent ATF employee with competitive status or a CTAP/RPL eligible candidate.
- Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
- Must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
- May be required to disclose financial information in accordance with DOJ and Federal ethics guidelines.

Qualifications
- To qualify for this position at the GS-15 grade level, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 by the closing date of this announcement.
- Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
- Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
- Specialized Experience Must Include All Of:
- Utilizing and inputting information into counsel databases and tracking documents;
- Serving as a liaison and interacting with other federal, state, and local agencies to ensure that the Office of Chief Counsel complies with all policies and procedures;
- Representing the Bureau and providing advice and assistance to other federal, state, and local agencies;
- Planning, analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of recruitments, policies, legislation or new initiatives pertaining to counsel and administrative programs.
