About the role
The Port of Seattle is conducting a national search for a strategic, engaging, and experienced police executive to serve as its next Chief of Police. This role leads a fully commissioned, nationally accredited agency central to the Port’s public safety mission.
The Port of Seattle Police Department (POSPD) provides policing and public safety services at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA), maritime and cruise facilities, commercial fishing and marina properties, industrial sites, and Port-managed public areas. With a 2025–2026 budget of $48 million, the Department operates in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment requiring strong local, state, federal, tribal, and international partnerships. Its 196 personnel include 138 commissioned officers and 58 civilian professionals assigned across three bureaus led by deputy chiefs.
Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, the Chief oversees all Department functions and ensures effective law enforcement services at SEA, the Seaport, and other Port properties. The Chief works with Port executives, business units, and external partners to develop and execute strategies that support operational continuity, security, and public safety.
Responsibilities
- Lead a fully commissioned, nationally accredited police agency with a $48 million budget and 196 personnel.
- Oversee law enforcement and public safety operations at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, maritime and cruise facilities, and other Port properties.
- Develop and execute strategies to support operational continuity, security, and public safety in a multi-jurisdictional environment.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with local, state, federal, tribal, and international stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Port executives and business units to align public safety priorities with the Port’s mission.
- Lead organizational change, improve performance, and promote accountability and continuous improvement.
- Develop high-performing employees and foster a culture of integrity, sound judgment, humility, resilience, and emotional intelligence.
Requirements
- Strategic executive with strong organizational leadership and law enforcement expertise.
- Proven record of leading change and managing complex operations.
- Ability to align public safety priorities with organizational mission.
- Experience building trusted partnerships and promoting accountability.
Pay
Annual salary range of $246,997 to $306,061. Placement will reflect the scope and level of the candidate’s comparable experience.
