About the role

The City of Glasgow, Montana, seeks a Full-Time Chief of Police. The ideal candidate must be a U.S. citizen, of legal age to perform the duties of this job under Montana law, possess a Montana driver's license, hold Montana POST certification, or be able to obtain it within twelve (12) months of hire (if currently holding certification from another state), and have a bachelor's degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a closely related field. Ten (10) years of experience in police work are required, with three years of supervisory experience at the sergeant level or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise subordinates
  • Manage police department operations
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws
  • Respond to emergencies and maintain public safety
  • Conduct criminal investigations
  • Communicate effectively with the public and media
  • Manage personnel issues and conduct performance evaluations
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures
  • Work nights, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

  • MT POST certification or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Conviction history check

  • Willingness to live in Glasgow

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a closely related field
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in police work
  • Three years of supervisory experience at the sergeant level or higher
  • Completion of a basic law enforcement training academy or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Montana laws and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and media
