About the role
The Chief of Health is an unclassified position responsible for executive leadership in healthcare for San Mateo County.
Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the County’s health programs and services.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of health policies and initiatives.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, equitable, and culturally competent healthcare services to the community.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community partners, to address public health challenges.
Requirements
- Extensive executive leadership experience in healthcare, preferably in a public health or government setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex health programs and services.
- Strong understanding of public health principles, healthcare systems, and policy development.
- Commitment to advancing health equity and serving diverse communities.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (a doctoral degree is highly desirable).
- Significant experience in a senior leadership role within a healthcare organization or government agency.
- Proven track record of strategic planning, budget management, and organizational development.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
