The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as a bridge between the medical staff and hospital leadership, ensuring alignment with the mission, plans, and objectives of Saint Francis Hospital. This role impacts quality and financial outcomes across clinical and operational departments, focusing on physician relationships, service line development, and strategic implementation. The CMO collaborates with medical staff structures, executive teams, and multi-facility physician task forces to drive initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide an effective bridge between hospital management and medical staff to foster superior physician relationships and secure physician input into major decisions.
- Directly report to the CEO for centralized medical staff functions, including medical staff development, recruitment, and physician relationship activities.
- Support formal medical staff functions at all facilities, chairing committees as appropriate and working closely with facility leadership and Medical Staff Presidents.
- Assist in developing and implementing physician Continuous Quality Improvement processes, ensuring effective quality improvement systems for patient care delivery.
- Set universal standards for patient care and lead goal-setting and improvement plans for Trinity Health quality standards.
- Participate in service line and patient care competency development, acting as a resource and influencer for strategic goals.
- Promote programs and services to referring physicians, educating them and their staff on SFH offerings and resolving service issues.
- Provide leadership development opportunities for medical staff, setting goals for key personnel and modeling behavioral change.
- Collaborate with the Senior Vice President of Clinical Care at Trinity Health to align SFH’s clinical operations with Trinity Health standards and policies.
- Foster unity among medical staffs and explore collaborative opportunities to enhance teamwork.
- Supervise and manage the medical affairs division to achieve objectives cost-effectively and improve physician relationships.
- Participate in Senior Leadership Council meetings and contribute to Managed Care strategies and negotiations.
- Provide leadership and problem-solving support to SFH management teams, ensuring physician input is integrated.
- Maintain professional growth by staying current with healthcare trends and driving continuous learning.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited medical school (MD or DO) with completion of an accredited residency program in a medical specialty.
- Board certification in a specialty (ABMS Board) and commitment to maintaining certification throughout employment.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years in clinical practice and 5 years in executive leadership.
- Proven ability to lead and implement quality improvement initiatives and medical staff quality programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to discuss quality issues and foster organizational culture.
- Advanced leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and the ability to inspire and motivate.
