Chief Financial Officer, Union County General Hospital

Union County General Hospital in Clayton, NM is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will report to the Chief Executive Officer, Hospital Board of Directors, and CHC's Senior Vice President of Hospital Financial Operations.

About the Role

The CFO provides leadership and oversight of the hospital's financial planning and operations, ensuring compliance with the hospital's mission, vision, values, goals, strategic direction, and applicable laws and regulations. This role appraises the organization's financial position, issues periodic financial and operating reports, and directs financial planning, revenue cycle, payroll, accounting practices, treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, purchasing, and real estate.

The CFO develops and implements financial policies and procedures, safeguards assets, and ensures adherence to generally accepted accounting principles. This position ensures proper accountability and reporting to federal and state agencies and maintains a fiscally responsible flow of operations. The CFO also assures implementation of and adherence to CHC system-wide financial policies and procedures.

This role involves maintaining positive relationships and effective communications with lending institutions, the financial community, Community Hospital Corporation, medical staff, employees, volunteers, community representatives, and board members. The CFO fulfills the leadership role in the CEO's absence, as delegated.

Responsibilities

• Supports the mission of the hospital.
• Ensures hospital compliance with federal, state, and local government laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards, and hospital policies and procedures.
• Participates in the development of the facility's strategic plan and short- and long-term objectives to ensure continued growth and provision of necessary services to the community.
• Operations Management: Collects and analyzes data from internal and external sources regarding current business practices, finance, accounting, and information management. Conducts needs analysis, identifies and prioritizes needs, and applies problem-solving skills to implement changes that improve financial operations.
• Safety and Quality of Care: Leads and maintains a culture of safety and quality, providing opportunities for staff to identify and address safety and quality issues.
• Financial Management: Participates in the preparation and management of operating, project, and capital budgets. Ensures effective use of risk management, financial controls, productivity measures, reimbursement principles, and contracting. Meets budget-critical financial metrics and effectively negotiates third-party contracts. Provides stewardship of all financial and physical resources.
• Supervises the Business Office, Medical Records, Information Technology, and Materials Management/Purchasing.

Requirements

• BS/BA degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related discipline (required).
• CPA designation (preferred).
• Graduate-level degree (a plus).
• Critical Access Hospital experience (a plus).

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of progressive career experience in Hospital Finance/Accounting.
• Hospital CFO experience (required).
• Managerial experience with demonstrated understanding of hospital financial reporting, revenue cycle management, accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, treasury, audit, tax, payroll, information technology, and materials management.
• Knowledge of hospital and healthcare practices, procedures, and laws/regulations pertaining to healthcare finance.
• Knowledge of financial management, accounting systems, treasury practices, risk management, financial controls, productivity measures, reimbursement principles, managed care contracting, information management, and materials management.
• Demonstrated skills in leadership, strategic management, change management, communications, team building, continuous quality improvement, problem-solving, decision-making, innovation, and stewardship of resources.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work with Medicare systems and adapt to changes.
