About the role
Friendly House, founded in 1920, provides services to over 8,000 households annually through eight locations focusing on Food Security, Social Services, Shelter & Housing, and Youth Development. The CFO will report to the Executive Director and serve as a strategic partner for financial guidance and direction.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all accounting processes, including bookkeeping, payroll management, billing, receivables, and financial tracking and reporting for grants.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private grant guidelines while maximizing service delivery and revenue under contracts.
- Lead the annual budgeting and planning process, monitor budget to actual results monthly, and produce reports for programmatic decisions.
- Adhere to billing and collection schedules, manage cash flow, and empower a team of professionals.
- Produce, analyze, and present reports to the Executive Director, board, senior leadership, and funders.
- Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors and finance committees.
- Review and update business and accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and keep manuals updated.
- Work closely with external partners, including third-party vendors and consultants.
Requirements
- Five to seven years’ senior financial leadership experience at an organization of comparable size, scope, and financial complexity.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or management.
- Knowledge of federal and state government contracting, accounting, and reporting.
- Accounting/financial certification (CPA, CMA, CFA) or advanced accounting degree preferred.
- Prior experience serving diverse communities like those served by Friendly House.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with budgeting and fund accounting policies, practices, processes, procedures, and associated reporting.
- Experience with external auditors, compliance management, and regulatory oversight.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills to translate and present financial information to diverse audiences.
- Experience hiring, onboarding, overseeing, motivating, and developing professional staff.
- Team player who ensures the finance function supports and advances Friendly House’s mission.
- Technology savvy with experience overseeing accounting software installations and managing vendor relationships.
- Able to proactively contribute to Friendly House’s culture.
- Understand and/or personally represent the lived experiences of the communities served by Friendly House.

Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with a starting salary range of $150,000 to $170,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
