The CFO translates the practice’s clinical and growth strategy into a sound financial plan, gives physician owners clear and timely insight into performance, and builds the finance function, controls, and systems needed to support continued growth.

  • Budgeting and forecasting: Own the annual operating and capital budgets and rolling forecasts, including service-line, site-level, and provider-level P&Ls.
  • Financial analysis: Deliver analysis of provider productivity (wRVUs, visits, cases), payer mix, cost per encounter, staffing ratios, and site profitability to inform operational decisions.
  • Accounting and close: Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, and month-end close; ensure accurate, timely financial statements consistent with GAAP and the practice’s reporting basis.
  • Audit and tax: Manage the annual audit or review and tax compliance across all practice entities in coordination with outside CPA firms; advise on entity structure and tax planning.
  • Physician compensation and distributions: Administer and model physician and APP compensation plans, shareholder distributions, buy-ins/buy-outs, and associated reporting, in partnership with legal counsel to ensure consistency with the Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute.
  • Revenue cycle partnership: Partner with the Chief of Revenue Cycle Management on revenue integrity, collections, and KPIs such as days in A/R, net collection rate, and denial rate; ensure revenue is accurately forecast and recognized.
  • Payer contracting and reimbursement: Model fee schedules and contract proposals, support payer negotiations, and evaluate value-based, bundled-payment, and direct-to-employer arrangements.
  • Ancillary and ASC performance: Oversee financial performance of the ambulatory surgery centers, imaging, therapy, and other ancillaries, including joint venture accounting and distributions.
  • Treasury and capital: Manage cash flow, banking relationships, credit facilities, debt covenants, and investment of reserves; lead capital planning for equipment, technology, and facility projects.
  • Internal controls and compliance: Maintain strong internal controls, segregation of duties, and financial policies; partner with Compliance on audits, regulatory requirements, and fraud prevention.
  • Insurance and risk: Partner with the practice’s broker and leadership on property/casualty, malpractice, and other insurance programs, and on financial risk management.
  • Payroll and benefits costs: Partner with Human Resources on payroll accounting, compensation budgets, and benefit plan cost and funding decisions.
  • Systems and data: Oversee financial systems (GL/ERP, budgeting, and BI tools) and data integrity; partner with IT and operations to deliver reliable financial dashboards and reporting.
