Essential Functions
- Team Development/Leadership
- Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Evaluates the finance/accounting structure for continual improvement.
- Develops and implements training programs.
- Leverages strengths of the finance/accounting team members.
- Creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment.
- Operations
- Maintains in-depth relations with the management team.
- Serves on planning and policy-making committees.
- Trains finance/accounting department staff and program management on fiscal management matters.
- Oversees fiscal reporting activities, including financial systems, transaction processes, financial statements, and analysis.
- Manages payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
- Assists with employee benefit plans, particularly the 403(b) plan.
- Monitors investments and ensures adequate cash flow.
- Coordinates with independent auditors and resolves Uniform Guidance audit issues.
- Financial Information and Reporting
- Reports interim financial results and provides analysis to support decision-making.
- Maintains internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
- Develops and monitors performance measures and financial strategies.
- Participates in contract, grant, and merger and acquisition due diligence.
- Assists with the development of new business and prospective programmatic budgets.
- Improves the budgeting process through education of department managers.
- Planning
- Develops and monitors performance measures and financial strategies.
- Participates in the development of DCCCA’s plans and programs.
- Evaluates and advises on the fiscal impact of long-range planning.
- Develops and participates in the capital and operating budgeting processes.
- Risk Management
- Understands and mitigates key elements of the company's risk profile.
- Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Constructs and monitors reliable control systems.
- Maintains relations with external auditors and investigates findings and recommendations.
- Remains up-to-date on nonprofit audit and accounting best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
Education, Experience, And Licensure
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a related field.
- Five years of experience in a senior management position or role.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred.
- Detailed understanding of accepted accounting principles, not-for-profit accounting, and federal grant requirements.
- Experience preparing, auditing, analyzing, or evaluating financial statements.
- Experience in actively supervising one or more persons engaged in such activities.
- Valid state Driver’s License, automobile liability insurance, and an MVR meeting organization’s insurability standard.
