About the role

Fay School seeks a strategic, passionate, and experienced leader to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO), commencing on June 15, 2027. The next CFO will work from a position of strength and a strong financial foundation, helping to ensure Fay’s continued financial success.

Founded in 1866, Fay School was the first junior boarding school in the United States. With students from kindergarten through grade nine, Fay provides an extraordinary educational experience for a diverse population of students drawn from across the United States and 25 countries.

Fay is entering a period of promising change, with strong leadership, a clear appetite for strategy and iteration, and a community deeply invested in the school’s future. The CFO is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the school’s financial management, business office operations, human resources, and legal and compliance functions. This position ensures the school’s financial health, integrity, and long-term sustainability. The CFO works closely with the Head of School, sits on the leadership team, and serves as a liaison to the Board of Trustees, supporting finance, audit, and governance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the school’s financial management, business office operations, human resources, and legal and compliance functions.
  • Ensure the school’s financial health, integrity, and long-term sustainability.
  • Work closely with the Head of School and serve on the leadership team.
  • Act as a liaison to the Board of Trustees, supporting finance, audit, and governance initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Strong track record of success in financial management, preferably in an educational or non-profit organization.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resource management; SHRM or other HR certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience handling legal matters, preferably in an educational or non-profit organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Effective management skills.
  • Technology competencies including insights into use of software and/or AI to create efficiencies.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate with spoken and written words.
  • Ability to use a computer device with continuous wrist and hand movements on a keyboard, mouse, or other input device.

Pay

Salary Range: $180,000-200,000
