Duties & Responsibilities
- Working closely with the President & Chief Operating Officer, lead the development and execution of the organization's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with short- and long-term goals.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting, ensuring all financial resources are allocated effectively to achieve organizational goals.
- Provide insights on financial performance, cash flow management, investment strategies, and fundraising results to the Executive Strategy Team and Board.
- Supervise and mentor the Director of Finance, driving improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and financial controls.
- Maintain oversight of accounting systems, financial reporting, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Leverage AI and emerging technologies to optimize processes and workflows within the accounting and finance area.
- Oversee the organization's stewardship of our assets, ensuring transparency, integrity, security, and effective management in alignment with organizational goals.
- Oversee the development and implementation of an endowment to support the long-term sustainability of the organization's operations and assets.
- Cultivate external relationships to provide access to capital growth opportunities that fit the organization's risk profile.
- Leverage data to enhance performance measurement, donor engagement, program outcomes, and operational efficiency.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring the organization is represented appropriately in legal matters and identifying new or specialized firms as needed.
- Work with the Director of Finance to ensure the organization adheres to best practices in nonprofit governance, including proper risk management procedures, insurance coverage, and legal compliance.
- Help develop the Risk Management, Compliance, and Government Relations team to help orient MLF and CFV for long term sustainability and growth.
- In collaboration with the President & Chief Operating Officer, lead and develop high-performing teams across Accounting & Finance and other operational teams as required, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven culture.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Strategy Team and Board of Directors, offering financial and strategic insights to guide organizational decision-making.
- Model Christian values, integrating faith-based, Gospel-driven principles into all decision-making and leadership approaches.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Principles
- Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of senior financial leadership required. Diverse experience spanning both for-profit and nonprofit organizations is strongly preferred, with exposure to faith-based organizations highly valued.
- Proven experience in overseeing cross-functional departments such as legal, data, IT, and other operational areas beyond finance and accounting.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit financial systems, including fund accounting, revenue streams, and donor-related financial reporting.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and manage cross-functional teams.
- Expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure and data management best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and implement strategies that enhance operational effectiveness and service delivery.
- High level of integrity and dedication to the organization's Christian mission and values.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to frequently move around all phases of Community First! Village property.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events, financial close periods, or board meetings.
