About the role
The Chief Financial Officer at Greater St. Louis, Inc. will serve as a hands-on financial and operational leader for an organization with approximately $27 million in annual revenue, projected to grow to $40 million over the next five years, supported by a small, collaborative staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to align resources with mission priorities, strategic objectives, and support long term sustainability.
- Interpret financial performance, budget variances, and spending outcomes to guide leadership decisions, strengthen stewardship of nonprofit resources.
- Advise the CEO, COO, leadership team, and Finance Committee to influence strategic planning, resource allocation, and mission aligned investment decisions.
- Direct accounting operations, financial close, and financial reporting practices to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial information.
- Manage cash flow, reserves, and financial resources to maintain stability to protect organizational stability and support ongoing mission delivery.
- Oversee restricted and unrestricted fund accounting to ensure proper stewardship, donor intent compliance, and sound use of charitable resources.
- Lead audit preparation, tax reporting, and required regulatory filings to maintain compliance, protect nonprofit status, and reinforce stakeholder confidence.
- Establish and direct the financial oversight of grants, contracts, and donor restricted funding to ensure compliant use of funds, accurate reporting, and strong funder confidence.
- Present financial insights, recommendations, and risk considerations to the board, committees, and external stakeholders to support governance, credibility, and trust.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Five or more years of public accounting experience.
- Strong accounting, reporting, budgeting, and audit experience.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences.
