Location: Southborough, Massachusetts • Full-time on campus • Salary: $180,000 - 200,000

About the role

Fay School seeks a strategic, passionate, and experienced leader to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer, commencing June 15, 2027. The CFO is responsible for overseeing the school’s financial management, business office operations, human resources, and legal and compliance functions, ensuring the school’s financial health, integrity, and long-term sustainability. The CFO works closely with the Head of School, sits on the leadership team, and serves as a liaison to the Board of Trustees supporting finance, audit, and governance initiatives.

Founded in 1866, Fay School was the first junior boarding school in the United States. With students from kindergarten through grade nine, Fay provides an extraordinary educational experience for a diverse population drawn from across the U.S. and 25 countries. The school is entering a period of promising change, with strong leadership and a community deeply invested in its future.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial management, business office operations, human resources, and legal and compliance functions
• Ensure the school’s financial health, integrity, and long-term sustainability
• Collaborate with the Head of School and serve on the leadership team
• Act as a liaison to the Board of Trustees for finance, audit, and governance initiatives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• CPA strongly preferred
• Strong track record of success in financial management, preferably in an educational or non-profit organization
• Strong understanding of Human Resource management; SHRM or other HR certification preferred
• Extensive experience handling legal matters, preferably in an educational or non-profit organization
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Sound judgement and decision-making skills
• Effective management skills
• Technology competencies including insights into use of software and/or AI to create efficiencies

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate with spoken and written words
