About the role

Manage the system’s financial resources and activities. Serve as the prime representative of the Chief Executive Officer in all financial management issues, keeping the CEO fully informed. Through subordinates, supervise and coordinate the functions of relevant departments. Maintain relationships with banks, investment managers, underwriters, rating agencies, and fiscal intermediaries. Conduct cash management and investment functions for Delta Memorial Hospital.

Prepare monthly financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, engage in the annual financial audit, and oversee the timely filing of federal, state, third-party, and other required financial reports. Perform cost studies involving third parties such as Medicare, Blue Cross, and other local, state, and federal agencies.

Recommend budget planning guidelines to the CEO, coordinate preparation of current operating and capital budgets with the CEO and department managers, and present the annual budget plan to the Board of Trustees for review and approval. Report variances from budgets on a routine basis.

Direct and supervise department staff through subordinate managers, including review and approval of personnel actions. Provide recommendations for insurance protection and work with local agents to ensure timely renewals. Participate in financial impact studies of proposed changes, such as employee benefits and salary increases.

Attend and/or conduct meetings, participate on committees, and support Continuous Improvement Activities. Provide leadership for assigned departments and maintain an effective system of accounting, cost determination, and data reporting. Continually review and modify cost systems to assure maximum cost reimbursement for patient services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related area required; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of previous healthcare financial management experience required.
  • In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of hospital administration and the healthcare field.
  • Refined managerial, verbal, quantitative, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Effort

  • Requires finger dexterity, eye/hand coordination, and full range of body motion including stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extensive periods of time and lift/move equipment/supplies (0-25 pounds) with proper technique.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

Schedule

Generally Monday-Friday with extended hours as needed.

Workplace Hazards

  • Exposure to chemicals, machinery, and bloodborne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment (e.g., masks, gowns, gloves).
  • Ability to comply with infection control measures, including immunity to certain vaccine-preventable diseases, tuberculosis screening, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
