Knowledge
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, principles, and practices applicable to municipal government accounting, debt issuance, treasury management, pensions, and budgeting.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of financial reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and city purchasing laws and policies.
- Knowledge of audit principles.
- Knowledge of public investment standards.
- Knowledge of federal and state accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of liability insurance, broker solutions and risk assessments.
Skills
- Management and supervision.
- Problem solving.
- Prioritizing and planning.
Experience
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible finance, budgeting, and/or accounting experience in the public sector.
- At least five (5) years of government accounting experience in a management or supervisory position.
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- State of Georgia Certified Financial Officer (CFO) certification is a plus.
- Bondable.
