Purpose

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer and member of the senior leadership team, providing both high-level financial leadership and hands-on oversight of finance operations. The CFO leads the organization’s financial strategy, planning, and management to support AIM Services’ mission and long-term sustainability.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure all financial practices support AIM Services’ mission to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through responsible stewardship of resources.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit financial practices, GAAP, Medicaid/IDD funding models, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Accurately interpret and administer mandates, financial regulations, and internal policies, ensuring consistent and compliant execution across the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Office and leadership team to provide strategic financial guidance, support decision-making, and strengthen fiscal accountability across departments.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and appropriate use of all financial data and PHI, including agency and individual funds.
  • Deliver accurate, timely, and transparent financial reports, to support informed decision-making by leadership and the Board.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer. Oversee all financial plans and budgets; monitor performance, identify variances, and proactively communicate financial risks and opportunities to leadership.
  • Ensure strong cash flow management through forecasting, liquidity planning, and alignment with operational needs.
  • Oversee contract billing, collections, and reimbursement processes (including government funding streams); implement systems that ensure accuracy, timeliness, and sustainability of revenue.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust financial systems and internal controls to ensure accountability, transparency, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain and continuously improve financial policies and procedures in accordance with nonprofit best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee financial aspects of contracts, leases, and agreements; support program leadership in financial evaluation and compliance.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulators, funding agencies, auditors, financial institutions, and community partners.
  • Clearly communicate financial performance, risks, and strategy to the Chief Executive Officer, Leadership Team, and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee the organization’s insurance portfolio and ensure appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure proper management, tracking, and reporting of personal funds in compliance with regulatory requirements, while supporting person-centered outcomes.
  • Oversee retirement plan administration and ensure compliance with fiduciary and regulatory obligations.
  • Provide financial oversight of purchasing processes and inventory control systems in collaboration with leadership to ensure cost-effectiveness and accountability.

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. degree in Accounting/Business is required with five years experience in accounting with progressive administrative/management responsibilities, Masters degree preferred.
  • Active NYS CPA Certification preferred.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and background with State and Federal laws/regulations pertinent to not-for-profit corporations, revenue, expenditures and internal revenue.
  • Ability to work independently and reliability in decision making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, general ledgers, and Medicaid billing platforms.
  • Knowledge of principles, trends, methods, strategies and procedures pertaining to personnel management systems and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task. Detail- oriented.
  • Valid NYS Drivers License that is acceptable to Agency Insurance standards.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Ability to remain calm in stressful or demanding situations.
  • Sitting and/or computer use for extended periods of time.
  • Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling as needed in the workplace - must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
