About the Role
The Chief Engineer oversees all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the property's safety, functionality, sustainability, and operational efficiency. This role leads the engineering team, manages preventive maintenance, energy conservation, regulatory compliance, budgets, and capital projects while supporting high service standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage Engineering department operations, staffing, training, budgeting, and performance.
- Maintain all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire/life safety, and elevators.
- Plan, schedule, assign, and supervise engineering staff and daily maintenance activities.
- Oversee work orders and special projects, ensuring timely completion.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests while maintaining service standards.
- Maintain the property's physical appearance and operational efficiency.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors on specialized services and capital projects.
- Partner with other departments to support seamless operations.
- Lead energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain repair, maintenance, and equipment records.
- Prepare department budgets and capital expenditure plans.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and address maintenance needs.
- Respond to emergencies and implement effective corrective actions.
- Mentor, train, and develop engineering staff.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of plant and mechanical rooms.
- Attend facility management meetings and communicate updates to the team.
- Maintain equipment and supply inventory levels.
- Train staff on maintenance procedures, inventory, and ordering processes.
- Monitor and test emergency and security systems, including fire alarms and CCTV.
- Report maintenance status and inspection findings to management.
- Develop and manage energy conservation programs.
- Ensure engineering staff maintain professional appearance and workplace standards.
- Support quality service, financial goals, strategic planning, and daily operations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering or maintenance experience in a full-service hotel or resort.
- Minimum 2 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of hotel building systems and operations.
- Experience with HVAC and electrical systems.
- Proven experience managing budgets, schedules, and projects.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with hotel property management systems.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and on-call as required.
Preferred Skills
- FSD certification.
- EPA certification.
