Chief Engineer

This position reports to the Branch General Manager and is responsible for the daily repair, preventative maintenance, and overall upkeep of industrial textile processing equipment and facility systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains all operating equipment in satisfactory condition.
  • Supervises plant engineering staff and consults with production, sales, and service personnel to ensure efficient plant operations.
  • Cost-effectively manages spare parts inventories.
  • Executes an effective preventative maintenance program to minimize unscheduled equipment downtime.
  • Installs, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on industrial processing equipment, water systems, and other related systems.
  • Troubleshoots electrical issues, diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests, and adjusts.
  • Ensures work is performed safely and efficiently.
  • Develops, trains, and administers a department of qualified personnel to maintain equipment and facilities in safe and efficient working condition.
  • Advises the General Manager of parts, supplies, and equipment requirements; orders as needed while controlling expenses and inventories.
  • Supervises daily maintenance requests to minimize equipment downtime and improve operational processes.
  • Works cooperatively and professionally with all plant personnel.
  • Adheres strictly to all safety rules, policies, and procedures required by Alsco, law, and industry standards.
  • Maintains technical knowledge through educational workshops, technical publications, and personal networks.
  • Stays current on equipment, repair procedures, and best practices; studies blueprints and manufacturers’ manuals.
  • Proficient in reading electrical schematics.
  • Develops and trains engineering staff on equipment, repair procedures, and best practices.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records of maintenance performed.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions and performs other tasks as directed by supervision.
  • Complies with all Federal, State, and local laws.
  • May work with and support other branch personnel as required.
  • Drives to pick up parts and transport equipment or materials.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record free of chargeable accidents, speeding, or other safety violations.
  • Minimum of five years of maintenance engineering experience with knowledge of machinery, electricity, electronics, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and boiler applications.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting ability of 3-phase 230-volt systems.
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Experience in carpentry, boiler repair, welding, and general facility repairs.
  • Team player with enthusiasm, initiative, and dedication to continual quality improvement; self-starter.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalency; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Some locations may require relevant certifications, a boiler license, or PLC programming.

Physical Demands

  • Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, driving a forklift, grasping, moving equipment, pushing, pulling, and moving loaded carts weighing up to 500 lbs.
  • Reading, speaking, hearing, and lifting up to 60 lbs.

Work Environment

  • Inside and outside areas of a typical industrial laundry facility, including large machinery, temperature variations, noise, odors, humidity, lint, and dust.
  • General offices or outside grounds.

Occasional travel may be required, such as to procure parts.
