Chief Communications Officer
Opportunity Proposition
The Hotchkiss School seeks a Chief Communications Officer to join the institution at a critical juncture. This role will capitalize on recent successes, support the transition to a new Head of School, and oversee a comprehensive review of the school's communications strategy.
Principal Responsibility
The Chief Communications Officer will lead the Communications team in developing and executing an integrated communications and storytelling strategy that enhances Hotchkiss's reputation, supports institutional priorities, and engages prospective and current students, families, alumni, faculty, staff, trustees, and other key stakeholders.
Specific Duties
Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the School's internal and external communications ecosystem, evaluating brand, messaging, channels, workflows, audience segmentation, and stakeholder relationships.
Develop and implement an institution-wide content strategy to ensure consistent communication across all platforms and audiences.
Serve as a co-strategist for the Head of School, supporting her in her role as chief spokesperson.
Ensure strategic alignment and executional excellence across all channels.
Partner with the Admissions team to coordinate recruitment marketing and messages.
Collaborate with the Alumni and Development team on alumni and donor engagement.
Lead and manage the Communications team, setting clear direction and priorities.
Assess the team's structure and capabilities, and foster a proactive, high-performing culture.
Professional and Personal Profile
A proven track record in developing and implementing comprehensive brand communications programs, with expertise in strategic integrated communications, media relations, and crisis management. Strong strategic thinking, creative and design sensibilities, fluency across traditional and emerging communications channels, and excellent writing skills are essential. A collaborative and collegial orientation, along with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, are also required.
