About the role

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is a newly elevated, executive-level position that reports directly to CEO George Greene IV, and works alongside the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as well as with the rest of the senior leadership team. The role provides global strategic leadership in fundraising, marketing, and communications, driving Water Mission’s financial sustainability and global Kingdom impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Partnerships and Communication (P&C) division, which operates with an annual budget of approximately $7 million.
  • Scale donor acquisition and engagement strategies while diversifying revenue streams.
  • Direct mass donor engagement, mid- and major-gift fundraising, church and faith-based partnerships, institutional and corporate funding, grants, and strategic communications.
  • Manage a team of around 65 people across five direct reports.

Requirements

  • Taken an existing vision and led marketing and strategy to acquire new business to multiply an organization’s revenue at a similar growth rate as desired for this role.
  • Demonstrated rigor in senior and executive leadership, at the VP level or higher, leading complex departments of similar size (65 people) and budget ($35M).
  • Gathered CEO/COO vision and C-suite decisions and integrated well with their own team, managing capacity and learning to say no when success in the past involved saying yes to what partners wanted.
  • Relational fund development experience and/or a successful track record of building high-capacity, high-revenue partnerships or business development opportunities, particularly where relationship-building and understanding the partner were essential.

  • People-Developing: Trusting of an excellent team already in place, advancing team integration efforts, and metrics already underway.
  • Internationally Aware: Understands field country realities that may affect fund development both internationally and in the U.S.
