About the role

The Chief Academic Office is responsible for leading and supporting the academic support services of Columbus City Schools, ensuring that all students are highly educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as citizens in a global community.

Responsibilities

  • Directs operations of all areas assigned including preparation of budgets, development of programs, and all other matters that relate to operating efficiency and effectiveness including hiring, training, counseling, evaluating staff performance, and when necessary, disciplining staff.
  • Provides strategic leadership, in partnership with the Superintendent/CEO and Cabinet to create the vision of the district, develop the strategic plan to achieve the vision, and drive the execution of Board Goals and Guardrails.
  • Ensures compliance of the district’s academic service department with district Goals, Guardrails and strategic plan, administrative procedures, Board of Education (BOE) policy, state and federal laws, and directives of the Superintendent/CEO; initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Attends all BOE meetings. Supports the BOE student outcomes focused governance model as well as the work of BOE committees; performs related tasks.
  • Provides regular briefings to the Superintendent/CEO, Cabinet and BOE on critical academic issues.
  • Drives the design delivery, monitoring, and evaluating of district-wide intervention systems, including compensatory programs, to allow as many students as possible to meet and/or exceed the standards and reduce and close the gap in achievement between identified student populations and groups.
  • Collaborates on the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a comprehensive professional development model that focuses on the needs of learners, teachers, and administrators with congruence to system goals and priorities.
  • Engages the community, parents, and businesses in active partnerships that support and enhance the academic goals of the district.
  • Sustains current knowledge of best practices, trends, and new developments in academic programs and educational support services, particularly in urban settings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Public Administration or related field.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressively more responsible educational administrative experience including working with diverse and economically disadvantaged populations.
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education Administrator License or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the design, implementation and management of a large-scale system.
  • Analytical ability to develop the vision and direction of the district’s educational programs and services consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals of the district as well as related Federal and state mandates.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively serve as a leader and member of a team.
