Job Summary
Proximity Learning offers free supplemental programming to students from various Chicago area schools, including Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, and Independent schools. We are seeking an enthusiastic and flexible individual to join our team.
About the Role
This role involves providing supplemental instruction to small groups of high school students (grades 9-12) in English Language Arts, with a focus on closing the achievement gap and building a strong foundation. Additionally, the instructor will assist with SAT Prep classes for a few weeks during the school year.
Responsibilities
- Provide supplemental instruction to small groups of students in a pull-out classroom setting.
- Develop lesson plans based on the Title I English Language Arts curriculum.
- Collaborate and communicate with the student's classroom teachers to align instruction and support students' development in English Language Arts.
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment to motivate student attendance.
- Monitor students' progress continuously, both formally and informally, to adjust instruction and groupings.
- Understand and comply with Title I guidelines and requirements.
- Maintain accurate PLI record keeping and documentation in a timely manner.
- Communicate with PLI management, Title I coordinator, school staff, and parents on student progress.
Requirements
- Reliable commute or relocation to Chicago, IL 60634 before starting work.
- At least 3-4 years of education at the college or university level.
- At least one year of experience as a classroom teacher, tutor, or as a resource personnel.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
Qualifications
- A candidate’s hiring is contingent upon successfully completing and passing a national criminal background check (including fingerprinting, employment verification, and education verification).
Pay and Schedule
Starting Pay Range: $30/hr.
Schedule: 7.5-hour shift, Monday to Friday.
