Pay

Starting at $55 per hour.

Schedule

Part‑time during after‑school hours (fall, winter, and spring). The total time commitment is longer due to setup and cleanup.

• 2:45 pm – Arrive at school, check in, set up
• 3:00 pm – Kids arrive, teach lesson
• 3:20 pm – Kids play practice games
• 4:00 pm – Clean up, parent pickup

Responsibilities

• Manage a classroom of 10–20 elementary‑age students.
• Use the provided curriculum to demonstrate and explain basic chess rules (piece movement, castling, check, checkmate, etc.) and basic strategy.
• Promote good sportsmanship among students.
• Responsibly store and maintain all teaching equipment and materials.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable in the rules and basic strategy of chess, or willing to learn.
• Interest or experience working with elementary‑age children (e.g., small‑group tutoring, camp counseling, teaching, coaching, after‑school instruction, or preschool teaching).
• Experience in a classroom setting is a plus.
• Reliable vehicle for transportation.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lb of teaching equipment.
• Ability to learn and use new software tools.
• Availability during after‑school programs; flexible schedule (e.g., Uber/Lyft driver, student, or retired individual seeking part‑time work).
