Chemistry Tutor

This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur. Part-time positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Applicants remain active in the pool for 12 months from the application date.

About the Role

Olympic College is continuously recruiting for Chemistry Instructional Tutor positions that support students in developing knowledge, insight, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in Chemistry course materials. The college is a public two-year community college accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, educating more than 13,000 students annually. Located on the scenic Kitsap Peninsula, the college offers spectacular views of mountains and water from every vantage point.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in analyzing assignments and understanding class materials.
• Assist students in interpreting and understanding chemistry concepts.
• Assist students in the development of critical thinking and scientific communication skills.
• Assist students in the development of effective study habits and skills.
• Assist students working in an online format.
• Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Requirements

• Reference from an instructor or professor if you are a current Olympic College student.
• High School Graduate, Equivalent, or Current Running Start Student.
• Basic computer competency.
• Applicants must meet at least one set of the following course qualifications with an average decimal grade of 3.5 or better:
  • Inorganic Chemistry: Completion of CHEM 141/151, CHEM 142/152, and CHEM 143/153 or equivalent courses.
  • Organic Chemistry: Completion of CHEM 241/251, CHEM 242/252, and CHEM 243/253 or equivalent courses.

Desired Qualifications

• College teaching or previous tutoring experience.

Pay

$19.50 - $25.96 hourly.

Schedule

This is an hourly position scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week.
