About the Role
The Chemistry Laboratory Manager provides operational and administrative laboratory support services and contributes to the general operation of the Chemistry Department’s labs.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates activities in instructional laboratories, providing support services to faculty and students.
- Manages waste and stockroom operations, including ordering, inventory, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, equipment, and instruments.
- Maintains the department’s chemical inventory.
- Determines laboratory requirements and prepares general and organic laboratories.
- Coordinates maintenance or repairs of equipment in the chemistry laboratories.
- Supervises undergraduate student lab assistants.
- Provides advice and orientation to instructors regarding laboratory procedures, location and use of materials, and the operation of equipment.
Requirements
- General knowledge of basic instruments used in undergraduate chemistry labs, such as IR, UV-Vis, Fluorescence, NMR, AA spectrometers, HPLC, PXRD, GC, and GC-MS chromatographs, as well as smaller instruments like pH and conductivity meters.
- A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry (Master’s degree or graduate hours preferred).
Pay
Salary: $39,300 (Pay Grade: GEN07)
Schedule
Normal work hours: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Summer hours may vary.
Start date: August 10, 2026.
